Three hot springs in the Riviera Nayarit to soothe your body and soul

The Riviera Nayarit has great beaches, but it also offers an endless number of beautiful places that you can’t miss out on, especially its natural springs with crystal-clear waters that can be both therapeutic and relaxing.

Today we’re continuing with our “Disconnect to Reconnect” campaign and recommending three gorgeous hot springs located in the municipality of Compostela, also part of the Riviera Nayarit: Jamurrca, Nuevo Ixtlán, and El Molote. Each one has its own unique characteristics to offer visitors not just recreation, but also a healthy option to enjoy during their stay.

The best part about it is these springs are very near Rincón de Guayabitos along a 40-kilomters swath, and you can get to all three from Nuevo Vallarta or the city of Tepic via Federal Highway 200.

Put them on your travel schedule!

Jamurrca
This hot spring is tucked away in the mountains and surrounded by thick vegetation. The location is just four kilometers from Las Varas, Nayarit, on the way to the village of La Cuata off of Federal Highway 200. Its thermal waters bubble up from a spring that heats up in excess of 50C (122F) and they’re said to have therapeutic properties. The area was traditionally used by the Wixárika marakames, or priests, to perform cleansings of the body and soul. Today it’s an aquatic center with facilities for you to enjoy with your friends and family. The place is currently closed due to Covid-19 but keep it on your list as it will open very soon!

The pools at Nuevo Ixtlán
Deep in the heart of the jungle that covers the Sierra del Vallejo, the rustic yet charming area of Nuevo Ixtlán is a natural hot spring that’s home to 20 stone pools that bubble under a canopy of huge shade trees. Each pool is different but can generally hold anywhere from two to six people. When you arrive, the attendants will assign you a pool for your exclusive use together with your partner or family. The pools are emptied and cleaned frequently and each one has its own plumbing system to pipe in the water that bubbles up from the ground. Although it’s closed due to the pandemic, it’s good to know it has all the facilities you might need, including clean bathrooms, barbecues, and even a small restaurant.

El Molote
El Molote is a thermal spring that bubbled up in the middle of a cultivated field. You can get to it after following a dirt road that curves off of Federal Highway 200. This place is truly off the beaten path and, unlike Jamurrca and Nuevo Ixtlán, it has no tourist services or facilities; however, it’s well worth mentioning precisely because of its rustic state. Here you can enjoy an incredible dip in a natural environment with interruption from businesses. The leafy trees provide great shade for this quiet natural pool, and the water temperature helps melt away your worries and stress.
